New Evolution 9 In Preparation For Round 3 Of Ancro

The SGP Motorsport team are busy preparing a brand new Mitsubishi Evolution 9 in time for the 3rd round of the Ancro National Rally on the Isle Of Man 3rd May.

Although this shot was taken as the car was having its roll cage fitted, the team were confident the car will be ready on time.

The new Evo 9 will be used by Stephen Petch and Co-Driver Michael Wilkinson not only at the Manx Rally (Ancro), but also at the opening rounds of the BRC (British Rally Championships) a week later.

In order for the car to enter competition, the vehicle needs to be completely stripped down from its original production state and then go through the lengthy process to meet the current Homologation specifications for 2006. Below is a brief overview of what work SGP Motorsport need to do in order for the car to enter competition.

Mitsubishi Evolution 9 Specification Homologation 01/01/2006

Body Shell

Seam welded, excess brackets removed, all sealers removed, rear bulkhead fitted, sill jacking tubes, fuel tank mountings, bonnet pin mountings, seat frames, seat belt mountings, under body guard mountings. MEM design safety cage, all excess holes welded, taped and finished in White.

Engine

Rebuilt to MEM specification using all FIA permitted parts, GEM ECU, MEM turbo restrictor, addition sensors for oil & fuel pressure. Iridium Racing spark plugs, free flow air filter and 500cc injectors. Competition exhaust with Catalytic Converter.

Transmission

Ricardo gear kit, Ralliart front LSD, Gems ACD controller. Modified rear LSD, aircraft spec ACD and clutch hoses. Polished drive shafts and AP clutch centre.

Fuel System

Centre mounted FT3 Homologated fuel cell with guard. Twin fuel pumps, FIA spec rollover valve, Staubli dry fill connectors and Aviation specification fuel lines.

Braking System

Hydraulic handbrake, brake pad knock off springs, competition linings. Modified brake pedal, servo and pressure road. Aviation spec hard lines through the car.

Suspension

MEM’s dynamic triple tube front struts, Eibach springs, Ralliart top mounts, MEM’s dynamic 3-way adjustable rear damper. Ralliart bush kit, modified wheel bearings, long wheel studs, re-enforced front cross member and fixed camber washer set.

Guards

Heat treated alloy sump guard, propshaft and rear diff guards. Nylon wheel arch liners, suspension guards. Kevlar floor and sill guards. Kevlar under-wing wiring loom guards and FIA window film.

Interior

Gems colour display with logging and navigation functions. Stack rev counter, carbon door cards, carbon foot well covers, carbon navigators dash pod. Map light, flocked dashboard, lightening wiring loom, overlay switch loom. Recaro seats, MOMO steering wheel and boss, SPA Fire System. First aid kit, warning triangle, Sabelt seat belts, FIA roll cage padding. Spare wheels straps, Varley racing battery, Peltor intercom’s, hydraulic quick lift jack and door nets.

Exterior

Gravel wheel set, roof vent, heated screen, boot and bonnet fasteners. PIAA spot lamp pod, PIAA fog lamp pods and mudflap set.
